Yesterday I ran the first 5k in 5 years. My running partner talked me into a last minute registration. This race is the first in a series called The PInk Series all for the benefit of breast cancer. For me, the timing on this run was perfect. My aunt was recently diagnosed and is about to begin her journey into treatment. So, it was a symbolic run for me as well as helping a great cause.

Since it is all women, every little detail is designed for women. Little touches like a silver finisher charm and mini cupcakes at the finish are some of the special touches we were treated to.

This run was fast. It was all downhill and Mother Gravity helped pull me towards the finish line. Right from the start I was pumped beyond words. The run began and my running buddy and I were right at the front with the race winner just a couple of runners ahead of us. I was able to keep her in my sights until the last half mile. I really found myself grinning form ear to ear while trying to breath and not fall down.  I have never in all my years been so close to the front! I actually shaved about 3 minutes off my previous PR and finished 15th overall! Yeah, me!

My finish was  made even sweeter when I was greeted by the firemen who gave us our finishing charms wearing pink shirts!

It was an amazing day all around. So fun to be involved in such a great cause, surrounded by strong women in pink, each with a reason they were there. Some ran for themselves, while others ran for friends or family.

What was your last run? Was it a cause run?
